Floor and edge

Handheld work software that keeps the floor moving when the network doesn't.

Each person gets the next job on the device that suits them: where to go, what to scan, how many. A scan finishes it. If the Wi-Fi drops, the work goes on, and everything is checked when the link returns. Robots take the walking and the lifting.

Sample data

Handheld taskLocation, item and quantity, a scan to confirm, and the next job. With no signal the scans keep going on the device and are checked when it reconnects. On a phone this shows each handheld at its own size, one under the other.

What it usually looks like

  • A new temp who needs the shift lead beside them for the first hour.

  • Pick lists printed that morning, with the day's changes written on them.

  • A dead spot by the freezer where scans don't go through.

How it works

The next job appears.

Putaway, pick, replenish, count, move, pack or load: the next job goes to the right person or robot, in the right place.

A scan finishes it.

Scan the location, the pallet, the item. The scan is the confirmation, so nobody types a quantity into a rack.

The floor keeps going offline.

Scans wait on the device and show as waiting.

  • Pallet P-1042Door 3Waiting
  • Pallet P-1043Door 3Waiting
A scan taken offline waits on the device, then is checked when the link returns.

The supervisor sees the exceptions.

When the link returns, each scan is checked against what changed in the meantime. A bin that was moved or stock that was put on hold goes to the supervisor with the reason. Nothing is lost silently.

Jobs on the handheld

Each job on the handheld and what the person sees.

Put awayThe location to go to. Scan it to confirm.
PickItem, location and quantity. Scan to confirm. Flag a short.
ReplenishMove stock from reserve to the pick face.
CountCount a location. Small differences correct within your tolerance; larger ones wait for a person.
PackThe pack-station screen and the label to print.
LoadScan containers onto a load. Close it, and the stock leaves.
MoveTake stock from one location to another.
FetchA robot brings the shelf or the cart to you. Pick from it and confirm.

When the network is the problem

A unit in your building keeps the floor working through a network drop, robots and lines included, and the cloud picks up when the link returns. Where DigiOS runs, and what sits in your building, is set up with you.

Who is on what, and what is stuck

The task board shows every operator, their current job and anything waiting.

Questions

What happens to scans taken offline?

They wait on the device. When the link returns each is checked against what changed. A conflict goes to the supervisor with the reason, never silently dropped.

Which handhelds work?

Android handhelds, wearable scanners and tablets, and any current browser. Voice picking, pick-to-light and put-to-light take the same jobs. Barcodes in 1D, QR and DataMatrix, and RFID, scan the same way.

Do labels print from the floor?

Yes. A print job shows whether it printed, failed or is unknown, and nothing is resent on a guess.

What about wearables, voice and light?

The same job from the same queue, on the device that suits the person.

How long does a new person take to learn it?

The screen tells them what to do next, so the shift lead isn't the instruction manual.
